Songwriting for Beginners

Description:
Have you always wanted to write songs but don’t know how to start? Then the Beginner Songwriting course is for you. You’ll learn the basics of songwriting in a fun, supportive community. From the very first class you’ll be learning fundamental concepts and writing songs!
Each class includes an individual exercise to get your creativity flowing, a warm-up exercise with a partner, a main lesson based on a fundamental songwriting concept and a hands-on exercise that will allow you to practice that concept.
We offer three unique Beginner Songwriting courses throughout the year, all of them six weeks long. Each six-week course has some consistent core content, but also has content that is distinct, meaning that a student needs to complete all three courses to cover all the content of Beginner Songwriting.
The three courses can be completed in any order.
We highly recommend that songwriters do all three courses before jumping up to our Intermediate Course. Occasionally, some Beginner students feel that they are ready for Intermediate Songwriting before taking all three Beginner classes. They are welcome to do this, but should consult with the instructor before doing so.
A basic instrumental ability on either guitar or piano is helpful, but not required.

About the Instructor
Classes are taught by Murray Foster, a Juno-nominated songwriter, producer, and performer with songwriting credits on multiple certified gold and platinum recordings. One of the most notable songwriting instructors in Canada, Murray has taught all levels of songwriters at both Seneca College and the Trebas Institute.
