Songwriters come to Toronto Songwriting School from many different backgrounds with a wide range of goals and aspirations. We love seeing songwriters who have joined our community through classes, workshops, and getaways go on to create powerful and inspiring new music. Today, we’re celebrating three female songwriters with new releases that we think you should check out!
Gracie Jet – Be Like Us
Gracie Jet started working with us during the pandemic. She had been singing and writing songs for a while, but was ready to take her songwriting to the next level. Gracie Jet has a real gift for writing extremely personal songs while tapping into universal emotions we can all relate to. Go along for the ride with her latest single “Be Like Us,” recorded in our studio with producer Murray Foster.

Evelynne Ross – Old Oak Tree
Evelynne Ross has been called “Toronto’s folk rock luminary” after years of performing in clubs with the band Evolution. She’s been writing songs for years and came to Toronto Songwriting School ready to develop her voice as a songwriter. This year, she released her first EP Against the Fence including the single “Old Oak Tree” about strong family roots and a woman ready to make a change.

Alex Whorms – One Day I’ll Be Gone
Alex Whorms is a star on a rise. She joined our Art of Song workshop two years in a row, working with our professional mentors to refine her songs for release. Since then, she’s attracted the attention of CBC Radio and won a Hamilton Arts Award for her music. Alex moves freely between styles and genres with an authentic (and beautiful) voice.
